What to do if you have knocked out a permanent tooth:
An avulsed permanent tooth – a complete displacement of the tooth out of its socket – requires immediate treatment.
Find the tooth and pick it up by the crown. Avoid touching the root surface.
An avulsed permanent tooth should be replanted as soon as possible. However, if the tooth is visibly contaminated with soil or dust rinse the tooth gently in cold water for 10 seconds.
Replant the tooth in the original position in the jaw. If immediate replantation is not possible, place the tooth in a suitable storage container available at the emergency site (milk, saliva or saline). Immediately seek emergency dental treatment.
Note: It is not recommended to replant avulsed primary teeth.
